The consolidation of power
Date:
I was reading some commentary on one of the times in the Gospel when Jesus cast out a demon, and something in that commentary struck me. It said that Jesus was obviously not casting out demons by the power of demons because that would oppose the devil's aim of consolidating power. In a word, the devil's rebellion against God includes the consolidation of power under demonic rule. This made me wonder: can this principle be generalized, and is most consolidation of power for evil ends?
Of course, there are endless examples of this principle in politics and economics (like with dictatorship and monopoly robber-baron capitalism). The less obvious way this is true is in systems that appear to be opposing this principle on the surface but in fact are not on a deeper level. One example of this in politics is democracy. Ideally, democracy supposedly spreads power out to all people, but in the end this allows the worst motives common to all of humanity to rule. In democracy, voting power is indeed spread out between people, but the real things in control are just a few of the worst motives (or demons) that the whole populace is subject to. Power is thus consolidated in the most common denominator in what The People™ desire.
Another example of consolidating power being bad could be the existence of central bank systems. Much of American life is controlled at a distance by money and debt changing between big hands, and credit scores. This is one of many things that we can start to see is true, living in The System. All of this sort of consolidation of power allows for more Spooky Action at a Distance.
